Bathurst Rugby Club Annual Memorial Day.

Memorial Day started as the Peter Richardson Memorial Day after he passed away from a heart condition in the week before we were to play CSU in 2000.

This year will be 16 years since his passing and 15 years of “Memorial Day”.

Since Memorial Day started we have lost some other big characters like Bob Cody, Col Buchanan & Ross Turnbull just to name a few.

The camaraderie displayed by the players and supporters for the annual event led to the expanded memorial day for all those who have passed that were close to the club.

On Memorial Day not only do we stop to remember but it’s a day of raising money for the Bathurst Community.

Since Memorial Day started Bulldogs have raised approximately $120,000. In the early days the money raised was donated to the Daffodil Cottage for Cancer patients and then in more recent times we have assisted Carenne School in raising money for their hydro-therapy pool.

Highlights of the day will include:

• Special edition Memorial Day strip will be worn by the first grade team and auctioned on the night.
• Brian (Rabs) Roberson will set the scene with the traditional Memorial Day song ‘Ode to the Fallen’.
• DJ Rudder will be cranking out some tunes…this will be a highlight!!
• All grades will be doing a Red Faces act.
• Anyone else is welcome to show their talents and entertain the crowd.
