CLEAN SWEEP IN MUDGEE

9 Apr 2017 by James Horsburgh

Yesterday the Bulldogs juggernaut rolled on to Mudgee sending the Wombats scurrying back to their burrows as the Dogs destroyed them in all four grades.

With the Colts and the Bulldogs Women stepping out for the first time in season 2017 there was plenty of trepidation about how all of the hard work during preseason was going to pay off for these two grades after they were forced to sit back and watch 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade show them how it was done last week when CSU forfeited to them.

With a number of new members making up both colts & women’s team many were cautiously optimistic about seeing the next paver laid on what is the historical path of our great club.

Not that it came with any great shock, but as we have done over the past 143 years the cream once again rose to the top with the women running out winners 12 – 7, whilst Jesse Stevens showed that the future of Bulldogs rugby is in safe hands bagging 4 tries as the Colts demolished Mudgee 57 – 7.

The 2nd XV narrowly missed out on “raising their bat”, reminding the Wombats that cricket season is over and that the Rugby season is well and truly here beating Mudgee 92 – 7.

The 1st XV topped off a great day of running rugby coming out on top 55 – 0.

It was also a day of welcomed relief for two (2) of our favourite front rowers with both seasoned campaigners Semesi Langi and Chris Plunkett bagging tries to acquit themselves of the dreaded “nudie”.

This makes a pleasant change for both “Messi” & “Plunk” who have regularly found themselves heading into semi-finals worrying more about the impending need to show the world their best kept secret much rather than the upcoming “sudden death” final. Well done gents!!

At the close of proceedings, results were:

Colts XV Bulldogs 57 defeated Mudgee 5
Women’s XV Bulldogs 12 defeated Mudgee 5
2nd XV Bulldogs 92 defeated Mudgee 7
1st XV Bulldogs 55 defeated Mudgee 0
